Accusation or Intercession: Choosing the Right Spirit

In a recent dream, there were people in their vehicles ramming each other and threatening others if they got in the way of what they wanted to do. People were so filled with rage and anger that they were acting blindly in the flesh and just trying to hurt others.

I was looking on, saying, “Don’t be disrespectful. Don’t be disrespectful,” knowing that they would regret it later.

I sensed that those who were being disrespectful were going to reap what they were sowing, but in a greater measure that they would greatly regret. God is watching the responses and words of people.

There are people who do not know what spirit they are functioning in. They’ve lost their spiritual compass. Be wise and don’t fall into alignment with this. God has not called us to be finger-pointers and accusers, but intercessors who are motivated by God’s love.

Accusation vs. Intercession

The Accuser Is Recruiting

It is so important that we don’t act out of our own selfish desires to hurt people. Some people think they’re doing a service to God by accusing, pointing fingers, and judging other people, all in the name of exposing evil. As they do this, they don’t even realize the evil that’s functioning in their own hearts.

Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down.”
(Revelation 12:10)

As those who follow Jesus, we cannot trade off a spirit of intercession and prayer for a spirit of accusation. Satan is the accuser of the brethren. Jesus is the Great Intercessor.

If you begin pointing the finger, make sure you’re looking in the mirror. Judge not lest you be judged. You never judge to condemn. Jesus told us that He didn’t come to condemn the world, but to save it. He even said that He could judge the religious leaders and Pharisees, and His judgment would be right. Yet, that’s not what He came to do. There will be a Day for this at the end of the age. People who are on a rampage just to destroy other people don’t know what spirit they are of. It is no different than when the disciples asked the Lord if they should “call down fire from heaven” to devour everyone. Jesus said to them, “You do not know what spirit you are of!” These are the disciples who were close to Jesus, and they were still deceived in their hearts.

If you are finger-pointing, bitter, and speaking evil of others, don’t presume to give God any credit for it. It is just you. Don’t think for a second it’s the Holy Spirit’s inspiration in your life. If you think so, you’ve lost connection with the Head, Jesus.

While people need to be held accountable, you need to realize that just because you have a social media account does not make you the one who holds people accountable. There are some people who are called, through credible relationships, to hold people accountable. Don’t assume presumptuously that it’s going to be you when you are far removed from the reality of serious accusations. You need to realize the lane that God has given you and stay in that lane—and be thankful for it. Be glad that you don’t have to deal with difficult things. Don’t take it upon yourself to do so. If you are looking for opportunities for accusation, you have clearly defined that you are in alignment with the kingdom of darkness rather than the Kingdom of God.

Accountability vs. Foolishness

“Touch not my anointed and do my prophets no harm” (1 Chron. 16:22) still has meaning. It does not mean that leaders shouldn’t be held accountable, but it does mean that people who are not called to hold them accountable do not have a free license to say whatever they want to – and not expect repercussions from the Lord.

What we have to understand is that God is the only “Judge of All” and we better have a heavy dose of humility and grace and not be presumptuous. The sons of Korah sinned concerning Moses. (Num. 16:3-4) In that story, the sons of Korah were very presumptuous, thinking that they were just as anointed as Moses and could do a better job leading than he could, criticizing and accusing Moses – and the Lord answered and swallowed them up in an earthquake. They were destroyed.

Was Moses perfect? Far from it. He was called by God. He was anointed by God. God was not changing His mind about him for the callings and giftings are irrevocable. (Rom. 11:29)

The Wrong Spirit

If you’re consumed with bitterness, anger, rage, and just want to hurt people, you are in no place to represent the Lord. Rather, you are just the person the devil is looking for – to use to destroy people. The thief comes not to steal, kill and destroy. Make sure you’re not aligning yourself with the accuser and the destroyer.

Looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled.
(Hebrews 12:15)

Those in leadership who have sinned in most grievous ways against others need to be exposed, held accountable and brought to light – there’s no question about it, they are not fit for public ministry.

Still, we need to be slow to anger, slow to judge. The sons of God are still led by the Spirit of God. We need to be yielded to the Holy Spirit in humility. Social media has become a hub for people to vent their feelings and selfishness. We don’t want to be self-absorbed, we want to abide in the Lord – in His Presence. Social media is not a place to spread bitterness, anger, resentment and a self-pity party. You need to find real people that you can actually touch, rather than a Facebook/Instagram friend, to get the real help you need.

Our Role as Intercessors

Make sure you’re not aligning with people that are just aiming to destroy others. That is not the heart of Jesus. It’s not the heart of God. That is not the Spirit of Christ. If anything, your intercession and prayer should be stronger than anything you say. Jesus lives to intercede for the saints.

But He (Jesus), because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
(Hebrews 7:24-25)

That’s what Jesus is doing right now and we should be in that place as well. Unless you were a victim or intimately involved in some way – you should be content to be in prayer.

Jesus does not have a ministry of condemnation (2 Cor. 3:8). It is a ministry of righteousness. He who is without sin, cast the first stone. Jesus had the ability to condemn, but He didn’t. What makes us think for a second that we can step into that role and go on a rampage to destroy others without check? There’s only one who sits on the throne and that is God. Don’t look for opportunities to criticize, malign and judge people – that is not the way of the Spirit.

Have Eyes to See, Heart to Pray

We always need discernment, but we don’t need to condemn (1 Cor. 2:15). And what we do see and discern and is revealed to us by the Spirit – we need to take to the Lord in prayer and intercession. Just because you see something doesn’t mean you’re better than the other person. You aren’t better just because you stand. If you do stand it is only by the grace of God.

If we are given eyes to see – it is a gift from God that we steward. If we steward what we see or discern well – we take it to the Lord in prayer to help people, not to hurt them.

Relational Accountability

We need to hold people accountable. But that comes in our legitimate circles of relationships, legitimate relationships. Not an acquaintance – or a person you’ve met 10 times in the last 10 years. That’s not a legit relationship. We are talking about everyday interactive relationships. In the same way, we don’t need to judge people just because they’ve had some contact with people who are caught in grievous sin. There is a trust that is developed in relationships. The better the relationship, the better the trust. When trust is broken, it doesn’t mean we don’t forgive and love the person – but we most definitely don’t have to trust them. Trust is developed over time. Sometimes trust needs to be rebuilt and there is a faith aspect to that as we do want to help people. It’s what we are called to as believers. Jesus told us to forgive 70 times 7 – in one day!

There is a reason He told us that. Still, that does not mean we have to “trust” those who have not established a genuine record of faithfulness – nor should we. God looks for our faithfulness to Him and with that He graduates us in realms of trust as we grow and mature in His Kingdom – as we have proved ourselves (not perfect), but faithful to Him. We all have imperfections and certain offenses or bad stewardships do disqualify us from certain trusts that God would give.

God’s Unfailing Love

People who seek to destroy others have most often been wounded. Wounded animals can be dangerous. People who have been hurt will hurt people if they don’t lean into God’s love and grace. The nature of the devil is to destroy. Don’t take on his nature.

God is love. We want to make this what we are emulating and imitating. Even in a process of holding someone accountable, it must be done in love, grace, and humility, as we are not trying to destroy someone – lest we be tempted. It changes everything – it changes the approach. The method of approach makes a difference because we are not trying to destroy people. That’s not the ministry of Jesus.

This is not an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. This is not retribution time, retaliation time. Jesus brought an end to all of that. Our war is not with flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers and spiritual wickedness in high places. It hasn’t changed. Our war is not with each other.

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
(Ephesians 6:12)

Jesus was taken to the cross like a lamb to the slaughter, and He never retaliated, never said a word. (Isaiah 53:7) We need to make Galatians 2:20 a life verse.

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
(Galatians 2:20)

The Unseen Battle

Jezebel & the Religious

The Jezebel spirit and the religious spirit work in tandem with one another. A Jezebel spirit is the spirit of seduction that works with religious people. It is a backstabbing spirit that is focused on destroying the prophets of God.

Judas was a highly religious man. The Lord gave me a dream about Judas years ago. He had a painted face like a woman. It was perverse. It was the Jezebel spirit. I was really shocked to see it in that light. You can see how Judas worked with the religious leaders to arrange for Jesus, “The Prophet” Moses prophesied of, to be killed. It’s the same today. You still have Judas-minded people, highly religious people and seduced – out there looking for an opportunity to kill, backstab and destroy God’s anointed ones.

The Devil’s Pawns

We need to ask ourselves these questions. Are the people that are bringing accusations true worshipers? Do they really love God? Or are they just religious zealots?

In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, But he who restrains his lips is wise.
(Proverbs 10:19)

Maybe they became that way because they were wounded, didn’t get what they wanted. Maybe they wanted a platform and didn’t get it. Because of this they built a ministry of condemnation to try to destroy other people or ministries they don’t like.

Maybe initially it looked like they cared about the victims, but actually they might have had more of a zeal to destroy anything they didn’t like personally. Wouldn’t that be somewhat like Saul of Tarsus? He was a religious zealot – an expert in the law. All he did was for the good of the religious establishment. He knew the Bible as it was in that day. He thought he was doing a service to God. But nothing could have been further from the truth. It was the same spirit of Judas that continued through him, and were it not for the grace of God that knocked him off his high horse, he could have died thinking he was doing a service to God. He really thought he knew his calling in life by killing and destroying the radical followers of Jesus!

News Media & Social Media

Social media is not all that different from the news media. The way it works is you have to always have more “news.” And typically it is bad news. Those who feed on bad news have the wrong spirit. Reporting on social media or the news media – they are just working a business. They have to keep the news coming or they go out of business. It’s like a soap opera. For people who are worldly – they have to watch the entire gossip series. That’s the way social media has been built. You have to put up videos every day. I know it can be used for good (and it needs to be) but many times it’s not.

Watch Your Mouth – No Gossip Allowed

Make sure you’re not feeding the spirit of gossip. Do you gossip? Are you just talking about everybody’s negative problems? If so, you can’t be further from the Holy Spirit. You can’t be further from Jesus – He doesn’t hang out with that either. He doesn’t hang out with people like that. The tongue is a world of iniquity – set on fire by hell. And the only person who can tame the tongue is the Holy Spirit. What does that say about people who reject the Holy Spirit?

And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell.
(James 3:6)

Discover The Secret Place

Devote your heart to the Lord. Welcome the Holy Spirit to fill you. Abide in Jesus. Abide in His words. Abiding in prayer, seeking the face of God. We can’t do anything of eternal value apart from the Lord. Jesus Himself could do nothing apart from the Father – what makes us think we can do anything different?

Commit your heart to be filled with the love of God. Where your love ends is where His love begins. It is a supernatural love that can enable you to love in the most impossible situations. It took love that can only be poured out by the Holy Spirit, that enabled Jesus to endure the cross for the joy that was set before Him. LOVE NEVER FAILS.

Lean into Jesus, lean into the grace of God – welcome the Holy Spirit. Don’t become bitter, don’t become judgmental, don’t become critical and don’t be an accuser – rather be an intercessor with Jesus who is sitting at the right hand of God interceding for you.

As God is the all-powerful One, He chose to reveal Himself as LOVE. God is love. What God sees is people created after His own image and likeness that need help. That is why He sent Jesus. We need to have that same heart to help people at all levels. Our motive needs to be love in all that we do.

He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
(1 John 4:8)

Heart Check If you have found any of these things functioning in your life that you need to repent of – do that now. Sin will not solve any issue or problem. Sin is the problem.

Prayer

Jesus, forgive me of all anger, bitterness, hate and accusing thoughts. Forgive me for being disrespectful. Thank you for your Holy Spirit who you sent to be my Helper. I realize I need your help. Fill my heart with your love, fill my heart with your grace, fill my heart with your peace. I choose to be an intercessor with You. I choose to pray for my enemies to do good and to always seek Your face. Fill me with your grace as I can do nothing apart from you.
