Bringing our souls in alignment with God is so important for the spiritual growth of believers. Just as you cannot connect to the internet until things get synchronized – so we cannot experience the fullness of God’s best for our lives until we bring ourselves into alignment with Him.
Receiving the Grace of God
How do we begin to do this? It all starts with receiving God’s grace in our hearts to where we will have the desire to do so. Some of you may be in the place where you are not sure how to bring yourself to that place where You desire God above all things.
Let’s just say it is a daily walk. Just like Paul said, “I die daily”. The reality is that it does take the grace of God to walk in surrender to Him. Ultimately our surrender is the key to our alignment. The more we pursue Him, learn of Him and grow in the truth – the more we see our need for complete surrender.
In that moment when you feel the reality that you don’t have what it takes, that is when you ask for His grace. It is not something you can “work through” or make happen in your own strength.
Begin to learn how to surrender in the moment where you feel insufficient. That is where He strength is made perfect and His grace brings you into alignment where you can surrender to His will.
Give Him Your Yes!
God has a will. We have a will. We need to bring ourselves to say “YES” to His will. We walk by faith, not by works. The Lord waits for us to give Him the “yes” – even to come into agreement with Him. This is aligning our souls with God.
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Romans 12:1-2
This is the first step – offering our bodies a living sacrifice to God. We offer our bodies as instruments of righteousness to be filled with His Spirit.
By The Spirit
As we offer ourselves in this way we should then ask the Lord to fill us with His Spirit. Why is this so important? We put to death the deeds of the flesh “by the Spirit”. Without the Holy Spirit it is impossible to have transformation and change.
For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
Romans 8:13
By doing this we are again choosing to live by the new creation – putting on the new man created in true righteousness and holiness. The next step, now that you’ve welcomed the Author of the Word of God to live on this inside, is to meditate on His Word and promises.
Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
2 Peter 1:2-4
Tap into the Divine Nature
The Word of God is like the detergent you would use in the washer for your clothes. The Spirit is the water that makes the detergent (the Word) work in your life. The promises of God are where we begin to tap into His divine nature. We begin to live in the reality of God’s world, rather than the world of the flesh.
Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things.
James 3:5
See how great a forest a little fire kindles! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell.
In this verse we see a picture of the evil that is released through the tongue. The good news is that the Holy Spirit can tame the tongue.
Just as every word Jesus spoke was inspired by heaven – so we also can speak as the oracles of God. We have the power to bless others and speak life through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
What comes out of our mouths is a true measure of what kingdom we are living by.
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.
1 John 2:15-17
We want to live the transformed life, be surrendered to the Spirit and be used to advance the Kingdom of God in the earth. Our surrendered alignment with God is essential to be vessels that overflow with His glory. Just as Jesus promised that rivers of living water would flow out of us so this is our destiny in God – that is the transforming overflow of His life spilling over onto others.
Simply Vessels
Understand that you are simply a vessel. God is the substance of life that comes to fill you and flow through you. It is not about your works, being good enough for God or that you have some special training that requires a Doctorate of Divinity from a bible university.
God is just looking for surrendered vessels that He can use. Give your YES to God! Give your all to the Lord in surrender and know that He wants to use you in the most powerful of ways.
