“Fit For the Kingdom”
by John Belt

Luke 9:62
“But Jesus said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit?(appropriate or well placed)?for the kingdom?of God.”

The Business of the Kingdom
Jesus said that if anyone turns their head back when putting their hand to the plow is not fit for the Kingdom. What is valuable, important and culturally acceptable in the eyes of man is not God’s concern. ?God’s thoughts and man’s are completely different. ?God’s value system is much higher and has His kingdom at the heart of it. People who’s lives revolve around earthly, carnal affairs are not fit for the Kingdom of God.?We cannot be concerned about the opinions of others.? We need to separate ourselves to His work, not allowing these kinds of distractions to come into our lives.? When Jesus was approached about His mothers and brothers being outside, He did not get up, stop what He was doing and go and see what they needed.? He basically blew them off, how offensive, saying my family are those who hear the word of God and obey it. ? Jesus was about the business of the Kingdom. Either His earthly family was wanting special attention or a person was trying to distract Him from what He was doing. ?Yes, Jesus had time for his family, but His priority was God’s kingdom. ?Everything lines up after this. ?God’s sword has a cutting edge. ?It is sharp and offensive to the natural mind. ?Jesus was completely focused, being determined to stay at the Father’s business. ?We need to have that same focus if we are to be of any good for the Kingdom of God.

Philippians 4:12-16?
“Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.? Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, ? I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you. Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule,* let us be of the same mind.”?

In Check with the Holy Spirit
If we are ever to get in the place where God is pouring out His Kingdom power we cannot be thinking of all the “good things” we are supposed to do.? We need to be in check with the Holy Spirit.? He is the One who decides what we can and cannot do.? The biggest part of growing up, not settling for less than God’s best is leaving the things that man says are important behind. ? When we are plowing for God’s Kingdom we cannot turn our heads back thinking of all the things behind us.? We must keep moving forward.? This is the mature mindset.? Most people never get to the place of even plowing.? Much of what people do is for their own interest and opinons, rather than God’s. ? But when it is God’s business, we cannot afford to be distracted.? I tell you.? He will just leave you behind if you want to placate the interests of others.? We cannot serve two masters. ? Business is business. ? God means business.? We need to get on His page, not worrying about others.

Moving Forward
If we begin to remind people of their past or simply cause people to be distracted into foolish thinking we are in essence becoming anti-kingdom.? We are actually hindering people from moving forward. The past is past.? Nothing can be done about the past.? Only the future can be set for the Kingdom.? The Holy Spirit is now.? We need to believe that the blood of Christ is sufficient for any shortcoming.? God is looking for a mature people who encourage one another in this battle to keep moving forward.? There is a battle to be won.? It will not be won by a people who are telling each other to look back. ??

The battle will be won by a people who encourage one another to look forward, press ahead and advance the Kingdom of God.??Anyone who looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God.
