In the Form of A Dove

So I said, “Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest.”

Psalms 55:6

Just as David says here, Oh that I had the wings like a dove, so it is that when we find the Holy Spirit in our lives we truly find our wings. These are not just any wings, but rather the wings that God has designed for us.

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

John 14:26

I can just see David gazing in his mind’s eye, reviewing a refreshing experience of looking intently on this dove flying in the sky. As he looks he is seeing the wonder of freedom, being lifted up from the earth. You can call it escapism or whatever you feel fits. The fact is that we all need refreshing. We all need a place to find rest, to get away from it all. The Holy Spirit taps us into a place of rest, peace and joy.

For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

Romans 14:17

God is not really looking for escapists or does He promote that mentality. Yet because of the way we have been made we need recreation. We need to find a place to recreate ourselves in a sense. Sometimes life can leave people feeling scattered and broken in pieces. God’s cure for this is for us to find His Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is like a dove that is gentle, graceful, peaceful and takes flight to wonderful resting places.

David is saying, God give me wings to get away from it all! It is ok to ask God to help you move into a fresh experience of His Presence. The Dove of the Holy Spirit is looking for a place to rest. And believe me, when He rests upon you, you will experience His overflow, blessing, peace and rest.

Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.

Matthew 11:29-30

Jesus intends on us finding His rest, His yoke. Through the Holy Spirit we find His easy yoke. The Spirit will bring us peace that passes all understanding. By simply welcoming the Holy Spirit you can experience the depths of God’s love and peace. The Spirit will pour the abundance of God’s love and acceptance in our hearts as we invite Him to come.
