Pentecost is a significant event in the Christian calendar, and this year it falls on May 31st. Despite the current global pandemic, just as we celebrated Easter and Passover, I believe that we are going to experience a literal Pentecost. Jesus paid the price for us to be filled with His Holy Spirit, and I am filled with excitement about what God is about to do. We are on the verge of witnessing the manifestation of God’s glory in ways we have never dreamed or imagined.
As I have been reading the book of Acts, I am captivated by the early church and how it looked so different from the church today. In Matthew 3, John the Baptist speaks to a group of people and his disciples, telling them that he can baptize them with water, but there is someone coming after him who is mightier than he is. John humbly acknowledges that he is not even worthy to untie the sandals of this person. And then he says , “He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.” We have received a portion of the baptism of the Holy Spirit and a portion of the baptism of fire, but we have yet to see the fullness of what God wants to do.
When Jesus walked the earth, every time He spoke into a situation, it immediately shifted. This was because of the Holy Spirit in Him. And God wants to do the same through us. He is looking for a people who are willing to lay down their lives for the gospel, who will walk as Jesus walked, love as He loves, and carry His glory.
With 30 days until Pentecost, I believe that this will be the best Pentecost we have ever experienced. I am pressing in and believing that not only will it be the best in our lifetime, but it will also harken back to the original Pentecost, where the outpouring of the Holy Spirit transformed everything we know about Christianity and the glory of God.
I want to challenge you to spend this next month seeking God like never before. Spend time in prayer, fasting if you feel led to do so. Let us be a people who say that Jesus is worth it all. As we do, we will see things we have never seen before. Not just the salvation of loved ones or the transformation of impossible situations, but signs, wonders, and miracles on a grand scale.
On the original Pentecost, 3,000 people were saved in an instant. The movement of God was so evident that people stopped what they were doing to find out what was happening. That is the kind of move of God I am talking about. Everything is about to change, and we cannot expect the same results if we continue doing what we have always done. Get on your face before God, fast, pray, and dive into the Word. If you’re not sure where to start, read the book of Acts. Even if you just read a chapter a day, you’ll finish it within 30 days or less.
I want to encourage you with this message. Be blessed and know that God is stirring hunger and faith within us. Let us passionately pursue Him like never before, willingly laying down our lives to seek His face and serve Him. Let us be ambassadors wherever we go, obedient to His leading no matter what it looks like.
