Jesus wants you to experience the breath of His Spirit. This is part of the good news that He has for all who call Him “Lord”. Part and essential to the blessing that we have as believers is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. God desires us to walk as people “inspired” by Him. When we talk about walking with the Lord, pleasing God and fulfilling all that He has called us to – we know it cannot be accomplished in our own selves, because is not by might, nor by power but by His Spirit!
And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”
John 20:22
The breath of God has all to do with life and inspiration. God wants us to be an inspired people. The definition of a “prophet” is “an inspired man”. Moses thought it would be great if God would put His Spirit upon His people – that all might be prophets. Jesus has called us to be prophetic as we are His sheep who hear His voice.
The Hebrew word for breath is “ruah”. We should seek to have that inspired life with God. It is an amazing thought to imagine Jesus standing before you and speaking His words over your life. Every word that Jesus spoke was from the very glory of heaven. Where we get our inspiration is vitally important for our lives. God wants us under His inspiration. As we yield to His Spirit, listen to His voice and sow to the Spirit we reap His life.
It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.
John 6:63
The words Jesus spoke were “spirit and life”. Words in themselves are spirit. Words are invisible yet very powerful and we held accountable for every idle word we speak. We don’t want to use our words lightly and need to realize that the words we speak have power to help or hurt. How much more do we need the Word of God and of Jesus in our hearts.
And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell.
James 3:6
By the words we speak we can cause a cycle of spiritual death. The tongue cannot be tamed by any man, but the good news is that it can be tamed by the Holy Spirit. God Himself can reign in our tongues and anoint us to speak by the inspiration of the Spirit. In this way we can speak from the “world of heaven” as our inspiration and influence instead of worldliness.
And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word.
Luke 10:39
Mary knew the value of spending time with Jesus – even just to hear His words. Spend time in the words of Jesus, commune with His Spirit and to receive impartation from heaven. As you soak in the Word of God, engage in worship and give yourself to prayer you will receive a flow from heaven’s throne that will draw you into a more tangible and much better place in the Lord.
