My wife Brandi recently had a dream about destructive winds blowing. In the dream these natural winds were a parallel to spiritual winds coming to destroy dreams, faith, hope and get people blown off course,in effect causing them to lose focus. This dream was even more specific to a day I would visit Dallas, TX on Monday, November 10th, 2014. The evening before I was preparing a message while watching the weather forecast. Then I noticed that the forecast for Monday was WINDY. It reminded me of the dream she shared with me a few weeks back. That Monday was one of the windiest days I can remember. I flew him back that night to OKC and when we came down to land the plane we hit the strongest pocket of wind that it felt like it was tossing the plane like a tin can.
All to say that these winds are a natural picture of what the enemy is trying to do to believers, throwing winds of distraction at them to put them in a head spin, getting them off track. There are winds of doctrine and winds of doubt that come to throw people off course as we see in this passage:
that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head Christ.
Ephesians 4:14
The plot is to throw the focus off the main things that God has called us to, diverting us from obtaining promises. The result of these demonic winds is ultimately to destroy true faith and hope, bringing a hopelessness in the heart. We see the same illustration of being tossed in this verse:
But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.
James 1:6
There are two winds, a good and a bad. We see in scripture that God makes His angels wind as well. There is the Holy Spirit wind as we see in Acts 2. We can fight these winds of destruction with the winds of God and of the angels of God. In a recent email I wrote about Activating the Angels. There are ways that we activate heaven’s activity within us and around us.
- Intimacy with God
- Faith coming through the Word of God
- Faith activated through fasting & prayer
- Affecting the atmosphere through vocalized worship
- Allowing Your faith to work through love
- Holding fast your confession of faith
At the core our being, intimacy with God should be the main focus. But there are things we do that contribute to that life. Faith comes by hearing and by hearing the Word of God. Faith also comes through our sacrifice in fasting, prayer retiring to the heart. There is an awakening that occurs within us when we stir up what God has put inside of us. As well, heaven’s angelic winds are activated around us bringing confusion to the enemy of our souls.
Another aspect is the realm of worship, where we voice His praises in abandonment to His heart. This has a huge impact as well. These elements have a synergy together just as certain elements in a bomb cause an explosion. There isn’t anything that can match the power that God has made available to us. Another thing to remember is that our faith works by love. In other words, if you don’t have the love of God in your heart, faith will not function. As well, hold fast your confession of what you know to be true of God’s will and word in your life. Our tongues are the rudder of the ship of our lives, directing us in every good or bad path.
If you are experiencing these winds of opposition don’t feel it strange but realize that you are indeed a threat to the enemy. What we do many times may seem insignificant and small but actually has a much more powerful impact that we sometimes tend to realize. The spirit realm is very much connected. Just as Jesus delivered the demoniac, casting the demons into the swine so that the entire region was affected, so true praise, prayer and power is like a nuclear explosion in the spirit affecting things far beyond what we can imagine. Continue to activate the resources of heaven that God has available for you to win battles, obtain promises and take territory for His Kingdom.
