When God Orders Your Thoughts

John Belt

A Busy World

Life can get busy and noisy! The best place to be is when God orders your thoughts throughout the day. This is the world that we live in, the world we get used to. How we deal with the busyness and noise makes all the difference in how we are able to walk with awareness of God’s Presence.
Luke 8:14
“And as for what fell among the thorns, they are those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature. As for that in the good soil, they are those who, hearing the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bear fruit with patience.
Busyness comes in the form or our work, the kids, the back, the list, the needs, the wants and sometimes just by filling in space to keep from getting bored. With that said, busyness is can be a form of noise as well. Noise is that which keeps your head filled with all forms of activity. You have your own busy thoughts, then you have your family’s thoughts, then your extended family, then your bosses and co-workers stuff as well as everything else you can think of.

Set Your Sights on God

With this noise the enemy of your soul is attempts to keep you distracted from what really matters in life. When a person becomes extremely self-focused they are filled with noise. This is where everything begins to revolve around them. Those who have their minds on the things of the Spirit will lift your sights toward God.
God has a much better plan for our lives than busyness and noise. It is true that God has work for us to do. Matter of fact, Jesus is and was always working.
John 5:17
“But Jesus answered them, My Father is working until now, and I am working.”

The Father’s Business

The way Jesus found and approached the work the Father gave Him was always directed, inspired and motivated by the Father’s heart. He was busy doing His Father’s business. (Luke 2:49) There is a vast difference between the business that is saturated with the spirit of this world verses that which is directed and anointed of the Holy Spirit. We are in the world, but not of it. That means we may be about doing some of the same kinds of work that others are engaged in, but we have a different source of strength, peace, motivation and inspiration. Because of this, the work that we are engaged in has the blessing and favor of God upon it.
God has given us a privileged communion with Him where all of our steps are ordered by Him. Because of this we no longer walk according to the multitude of voices, but rather His voice alone. This eliminates the unneeded busyness that has not been meant for our lives. As we walk by His voice we are freed from the heavy burden of unneeded works and the extreme efforts of our own flesh.

The Finisher of Our Faith

His yoke is easy and His burden is light. (Matthew 12:30) We are liberated from the noise of this world as we walk by the one voice of His Spirit. When we become focused on His desire we lose focus of self. It no longer is about us, but about what He desires in regards to our lives. Seeking to fix ourselves never fixes anything but only makes it worse because we are trying to fix things from an inferior place in our own strength.
Hebrews 12:1
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”
As our focus is on Him we make progress being transformed into His image. So not only does God get all of our attention, He makes things right in our lives as we set our sights upon Him. He is the author and finisher of our faith. Many make the mistake of letting Him be the Author (i.e. they start right), but don’t allow Him to be the Finisher. Let Him take your life from beginning to end. He will make all things good in your life!
Mark 1:35
“And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.”
You don’t need a whole bunch of thoughts crowding your head like a squirrel on the road going back and forth trying to figure out which way to go. Let God order and inspire your thoughts one at a time throughout the day with His peace. Enjoy your days with Him! Do your very best each day to find time to spend alone with God. (Luke 11:42) It is in those times that we discover the best part that He has for us.
His Substantial Peace Be Yours!
